The Dragons of Komodo

Due to the park having three larger islands and many smaller ones, there are many beautiful bays and coves that make for unique and magnificent diving sites. Some of the coves drop deep and are towered by magnificent walls of coral which burst with colour, whilst others lend themselves for excellent muck diving opportunities. The Komodo National Park is home to some of the world’s most pristine reefs.

Between the islands, the Indian and Pacific oceans meet, attracting a dazzling variety of marine creatures as well as making Komodo National Park a direct migratory route for sea turtles and whale sharks. One of the best ways to enjoy the underwater world of Komodo is through a drift dive. Be swept along by the ocean currents and feel as though you are ‘flying’ through the water as you catch a glimpse of the magnificent lush coral reefs beneath you, teaming with life.

On land you may have a rare opportunity of spotting a Komodo dragon, where scenic walks often lead to encounters with these fascinating creatures. With savannah vegetation, the island of Rinca is the best place to see the Komodo dragon, the biggest reptile in the world as well as an endangered species.

Walks through the rugged terrain vary between short strolls and longer, more physically demanding treks. Komodo National Park is the only place in the world where you can experience close encounters with these fascinating creatures, making it a must see destination to add to your bucket list.
